Alex Lowry spotted training with Liam Cooper in Rangers World Cup break

Alex Lowry has been spotted training with Leeds United captain Liam Cooper during the World Cup break as the Rangers youngster maintains his fitness.

Lowry has been out injured during the first half of the 2022/23 season but now looks to be set to make a first-team comeback.

With Rangers not in action until 15 December, the 19-year-old is using the time to ensure he is at peak fitness for when the Gers restart their Scottish Premiership campaign.

Cooper posted an Instagram story (23 November) of their pair going through some tough fitness drills during their midseason training camp in Dubai.

Lowry will be desperate to get some more first-team minutes for Rangers after not being given the opportunity to impress under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Every time the youngster has played for the Gers he has looked like a real talent. Training in hot weather with a seasoned professional such as Cooper also demonstrates he has the correct attitude which is needed to succeed at the very top of the game.

Rangers must ensure they give Lowry the opportunity to impress in the coming weeks and months and hopefully a new manager will see the attacking midfielder as a big part of his plans moving forward. He’s at an age where he needs to be playing first-team football regularly. Youth team appearances and the odd substitute cameo will do Lowry no good.

With Tom Lawrence out injured, the Gers have certainly missed an attacking spark in midfielder and the 19-year-old would certainly add that. Let’s hope we all see a lot more of the academy product in the weeks and months to come.
