Ryan Jack reflects on bizarre whiplash injury suffered during Rangers v Liverpool
Injury-prone Ryan Jack has opened up on his return to fitness at Rangers and revealed that he suffered whiplash v Liverpool after one tackle.
Jack has been plagued by injury throughout his career, and he suffered yet another setback for Gers during the Champions League clash v Liverpool.
The match went terribly, with Liverpool inflicting Rangers’ heaviest-ever defeat at Ibrox with a 7-1 drubbing, and salt was rubbed in Jack’s wounds after he left the pitch with two injuries.

He revealed that one tackle from Ibrahima Konate rocked him so much that he suffered whiplash, while the follow-through from the tackle also flared up a calf injury.
“I actually got a bit of whiplash from the challenge from Konate – he hit my calf as well so it was a bit of a double whammy,” Jack explained, as quoted by Football Scotland.
However, Jack also delivered a promising update on his recovery: “I got it checked and everything was fine but there was just no point in rushing things. I’m fully fit now and I feel good.”
Ouch
It’s not often that you see players leave the pitch with whiplash. It shows just how physical the match against Liverpool was, and Rangers struggled to live up to it.
Jack obviously had to come off after his injuries and he ended up being a huge miss for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

The Dutchman was also then left very short for midfield option in the coming weeks. Steve Davis, at 37 years old, quickly became a regular once again at Ibrox, and that simply isn’t acceptable for a club of Rangers’ stature.
Nothing against Davis of course, but he can’t be expected to play week-in week-out and that comes down to poor planning from the board.
Hopefully, Jack is back fit and firing when the league resumes in December as Rangers will need him to piece together a string of games as they look to keep applying pressure to Celtic at the top of the table.
But even if Jack does stay fit and build up some form, the board and Van Bronckhorst should still be eyeing up midfield reinforcements in January.
