We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Tam McManus wouldn’t be shocked if Rangers try to sign Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo in January but insists Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs more proven goalscorers in his side.
It is understood that the London-born Ghana international is also a long-term target of Celtic.
McManus does have concerns about Semenyo’s goalscoring record but he believes a deal could be done for the Bristol City centre-forward in the winter transfer window if Alfredo Morelos is sold.
“Antonio Colak’s been great, he’s been one of the brightest sparks for Rangers this season with his goals and his performances,” McManus told Ibrox News.
“But when you’re looking to sign strikers at Rangers or Celtic, you need to look at strikers who are proven.
“They need a proven goalscoring record and this guy’s record is mixed. I don’t think he’s an out-and-out goalscorer based on his numbers.
“Rangers will definitely look to strengthen that department.
“They could decide to cash in on Alfredo Morelos in January if someone bids as he’s not signing a new deal.
“The guy from Bristol City is one they could probably sign.”
Semenyo has scored four goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Bristol City so far this season with his last goal coming back on 14 September when he netted in a defeat to Norwich.
He’s spent his entire career at Ashton Gate but has only scored 17 times in 116 appearances for the English Championship club.
