Rangers: Antonio Colak signing would have been impossible in England

Antonio Colak could not have signed for Rangers had the Light Blues been playing in the Premier League, according to The Athletic.

Brexit has caused several new rules to be implemented into the game, most of which involve the transfer of players and staff to and from the British Isles.

The Scottish Premiership, though, has much more relaxed work permit rules which meant Colak, who would not have qualified for a visa to play in the Premier League in the summer, was able to join the club.

FIFA apply a points-based system for a Premier League work permit with 15 required to be granted one and the same applies in Scotland with one key exception.

The Premier League required somebody to have 10 points to go to an exceptions panel while there was no limit at all for Scottish clubs to put in a request.

Relief

Without Colak’s goals this season, Rangers could be significantly worse off than they currently are so Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hugely thankful for the work permit rules.

Alfredo Morelos could have produced something similar given the time but he was still recovering from injury for the first portion of the season and there was no way the boss could risk not having a striker yet again.

Rangers

These rules have to be exploited more by the club in future because there is a huge amount of talent outside of the UK that could be big upgrades on the current crop of Rangers players.

Even if they don’t end up becoming icons of the club, they could easily make sizeable profits in a short space of time if they can perform even slightly above average and in these tight economical times, that could be extremely beneficial.

Nobody will complain if more Colak-esque players turn up at Auchenhowie.

In other Rangers news, the club should be bringing van Bronckhorst back from his native Holland and pull the trigger on his job security.
