Roy Makaay leaves BBC writer in hysterics after breaking Rangers silence
Roy Makaay left BBC writer Graham Hunter in hysterics after what the Rangers coach said on the Spanish football expert’s Big Interview Podcast.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst made a big effort to bring Makaay to Ibrox from Feyenoord when he got the Light Blues job after Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa.
Makaay had never played at Ibrox in his career but when asked whether he had by the club’s hierarchy he replied with an answer fans will like very much.

“I know Gio played here before and the first thing they asked me was ‘have I ever played here?’,” Makaay said. “And I said’ no, I’ve just played in the other stadium once with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.’
“The other stadium,” Hunter chuckled. Makaay responded: “That’s the way they said it in the interview. It was funny because you could feel straight away the rivalry like you only have two choices.”
In the blood
It’s amazing how quickly the Rangers mindset embeds itself into anybody who joins the club in any capacity and that will be something the Ibrox faithful should absolutely love and take credit for.
Makaay won’t be the only one with that mentality inside van Bronckhorst’s backroom staff and that is something that the manager himself will have been very influential in doing.

The pressure is on him and his backroom staff right now with Celtic nine points clear at the top of the Premiership table but there is no doubting his love and belief in the club.
It might be worth giving him the time to make some big changes in January now that the gap to the Hoops seems almost insurmountable without a bad run of form for Ange Postecoglu’s side.
van Bronckhorst and Makaay should be putting that belief back into the squad at this time as they look devoid of any kind of inspiration.
In other Rangers news, the Ibrox board have not yet held any talks despite the club’s woeful form as the boss jets off to Holland.
