Ally Bain: Dutch bias plays role in Giovanni van Bronckhorst update at Rangers on Sky Sports News

Rangers Review journalist Ally Bain has suggested the Dutch media could have been slightly biased after it emerged Giovanni van Bronckhorst is “banking” on being at Ibrox beyond the World Cup.

Dutch football expert Marcel Van Der Kraan revealed live on Sky Sports (15 November) van Bronckhorst could well be in charge when Rangers return to domestic action.

However, Bain believes the Dutch media are eager for the Rangers boss to succeed and that they could be pushing the narrative for him to remain at Ibrox.

Talking on Rangers Review (08:23, 16 November), he said: “It doesn’t surprise me about the Dutch media and their support for Gio, he’s a Dutch coach and they want to see their Dutch coaches do well and maybe have views of him becoming a national team manager in the future or certainly being back in club football in Holland.

“They’re naturally very supportive, which is very different from our media.”

Good chance

When listening to Van Der Kraan there is a good chance that he may well not be completely in the loop when it comes to the 47-year-old’s tenure at Ibrox. Little has come out of the club when it comes to his current position, with a number of Rangers fans eager for his reign to come to an end.

Bain has made a good point, with the Dutch media looking to offer some sort of support to a coach who has previously managed in the Eredivisie.

From a Rangers perspective, fans will be eager for a new manager to take the reigns after a dismal start to the season. The defeat to St Johnstone should have been the last straw, however, van Bronckhorst has still managed to cling to his job.

Even the poor performances against Hearts and St Mirren have left the Ibrox board unmoved. The World Cup break seems like the ideal time to make a change, with a new coach having time to come in and implement his ideas.

The silence from Rangers is worrying at the moment.

In other Rangers news, a four-time league winner is likely to want to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and may even throw his CV into the mix after a major recent development.
