Frank McAvennie slams ‘terrible’ Rangers, says no players would make Celtic team

Rangers have slumped nine points behind rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, and ex-Hoops striker Frank McAvennie has made a bold squad claim.

After a 1-1 draw to St Mirren on Saturday, Rangers are slowly losing grip on the title race, and pressure on Giovanni van Bronckhorst is mounting as a result.

Players have been booed off by fans in recent matches, and to rub salt into the wounds, McAvennie has boldly claimed that not a single Gers player would make the Celtic lineup.

Rangers

Via Glasgow Live, McAvennie claimed: “I don’t think any of the Rangers players would get into the current Celtic team.

“I hate kicking people when they are down and they have been having a terrible time of it, but it’s their own fault.

“They’re not doing the basics. They’re not helping each other or working hard enough.”

Oversight

With Celtic in good form and Rangers massively struggling, it’s easy for anyone to say that no Gers player would get into the Hoops lineup, but it’s simply not true.

Rangers’ out-of-form players are enduring a really rough patch this season and are extremely low on confidence, but Van Bronckhorst still possesses a very talented squad – some of which would definitely be starters on the other half of Glasgow.

Rangers

James Tavernier remains a huge talent and Antonio Colak still tops the charts for goalscoring in Scotland – to say that neither would be utilised by Postecoglou is a huge oversight.

On form, both have had some awful performances and have rightfully been hooked by Van Bronckhorst, but that doesn’t remove the fact that they’re both match-winning players on their day.

Van Bronckhorst’s poor tactics and touchline decisions haven’t helped players perform by any means, but a new manager could see a number of Gers players return to their usual high levels of performance.

In other Rangers news, Dave King is set to heap pressure on the Rangers board as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s sacking appears close.
