Dutch expert shares live-on-Sky update on Giovanni van Bronckhorst future at Rangers
Dutch football expert Marcel Van Der Kraan has suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be in charge of Rangers when the World Cup is over.
The 47-year-old has come under immense pressure in recent weeks with his side now stuttering badly in the Scottish Premiership.
However, Van Der Kraan, who has previously worked for talkSPORT, has suggested van Bronckhorst does have the backing of the board at the moment.
Sky Sport’s presenter Vicky Gomersall questioned Van Der Kraan on the current state of play at Ibrox.
“Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under immense pressure at Rangers, what are you hearing about his future at the moment,” she asked (Sky Sports, 15 November).
Van Der Kraan replied: “I think he’s counting on the fact that he will be there once the World Cup is over. I think he’s gone on holiday at the moment. He is aware there is some unrest amongst the fans.
“Rangers is a massive club in Scotland and have a reputation in Europe, you can see that when they went to the Europa League final. They’ve played against all the big teams [in the Champions League] with a very limited squad and that squad was not built for the Champions League, Scottish League and a cup etc.
“Ten injuries at the moment, he knows he has to work hard with this team. I think he’s got the backing of the board and he’s counting on the backing of the board because they have not invested a lot and if you look at the amount of injuries they’ve had, it would be very unfair to sack him.”
Make the change
Losing away to St Johnstone and drawing to St Mirren simply had to be the final straw for the Dutchman and his tenure at Ibrox. Fans will forever be grateful for the run to the Europa League final, but right now this group of players have completely given up under van Bronckhorst.
The World Cup break is the ideal time for the club to make a change in the dugout with there now being a number of weeks before the Gers restart their Scottish Premiership campaign. The fact a decision has not been made is alarming for the Ibrox faithful.

There is still time to salvage the season with there still three fixtures against Celtic to come. The Hoops’ 2021/22 title win should give the Gers confidence that they can overturn the current gap at the top of the table.
However, if the Dutchman is still in charge come the Gers’ next Scottish Premiership fixture then it will be really hard to see how they will turn things around.
In other Rangers news, Douglas Park is remaining very quiet on the situation having not yet been in touch with van Bronckhorst.
