Damning figures show Rangers are miles behind Celtic in player sale profits

Damning figures have revealed the extent to which Rangers are behind bitter rivals Celtic in profits made from player sales.

Over the last 10 years, Rangers have managed a measly £19m profit from player trading compared to Celtic’s £141m.

Football business Twitter page the Swiss Ramble released the damning figures and confessed that the player sales make a “big difference” towards creating a self-sustaining business.

“Profits from player sales have made a big difference to Celtic’s bottom line. As a result, in the last 10 years they have generated £141m profit from player trading, compared to just £19m in the same period for Rangers,” wrote the Swiss Ramble.

The figures are interesting and quite surprising, especially after Rangers turned over a record operating profit of £5.2m after publishing their accounts for last season. [Glasgow World]

Getting better.

It’s not all doom and gloom despite the damning figures released by the Swiss Ramble, Rangers actually made some decent player sales this summer, suggesting a positive change is underway.

Nathan Patterson’s move to Everton gave Rangers an £11.5m profit whilst Calvin Bassey’s move to Ajax and Joe Aribo’s switch to Southampton also brought money in.

Obviously, Rangers are still in recovery mode, hence the player sales from the last 10 years are way off the pace with Celtic.

Building teams like the one that challenged for the UEFA Europa League always help matters but Rangers need to evolve and grow from that experience.

The current side has little to no stars in it and players who were once considered to be linked with big-money moves away have lost their appeal.

There’s plenty of room for the Light Blues to improve on these numbers and their bottom line will be better if they can nail down player sales in the future.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are ready to bid £5million to beat Celtic to the signing of one of their long-term targets.
