Douglas Park yet to make contact with Giovanni van Bronckhorst over Rangers sack

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is yet to hear from Rangers chairman Douglas Park over his future at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

The manager seems to believe that his tenure as Light Blues manager is nearing the end as he jetted out to Holland for some much overdue family time now that the Premiership has paused for the World Cup.

He said on Saturday after the 1-1 draw away at St Mirren that he would sit down with the board to discuss what would happen next but there have been no such talks as of Monday (14 November).

James Tavernier’s 84th-minute penalty rescued a point from Paisley but still left the Bears nine points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table to increase pressure on van Bronckhorst.

“I have no fear, I never have fear,” he said after the draw at St Mirren to suggest that his position at the helm is safe for now but time is already running low a year after he was appointed.

All over

If Rangers have any ambition of lifting a trophy at the end of the season then they have to give van Bronckhorst the boot as soon as possible and start looking for a replacement.

The World Cup break offers the perfect time to change managers with the majority of the Light Blues’ squad not heading to Qatar and a number of weeks available to work with the group.

The new boss, if they do arrive, will want to put his own ideology across and rid the club of the previous regime and anything that didn’t work within it and the earlier they can do that the better.

Ross Wilson, Douglas Park and Stewart Robertson have a very difficult decision to make in the next couple of days because being nine points behind Celtic this early in the season is unacceptable.

One more dropped point would take the title out of the club’s hands with even three wins against Celtic not mathematically enough to secure top spot.

In other Rangers news, Gary Keown has suggested that Wilson may have to pay both his and van Bronckhorst’s severance package should the sack decision come.
