Alfredo Morelos blasted for 'shocking' Rangers performance v St Mirren as contract starts to wind down
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Tam McManus has ripped into Alfredo Morelos for his “shocking” performance on Saturday as Rangers drew 1-1 away at St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
Morelos, 26, earned his first league start of the season in Paisley due to Antonio Colak’s absence but he failed to show Giovanni van Bronckhorst why he was wrong to keep on overlooking him.
Some have said that it was the worst performance they’ve seen from the Colombia international.
When asked about Morelos’ 90-minute-long display, McManus told Ibrox News: “Shocking. I thought he was really poor.
“With Colak being out the onus was on Morelos to be the main man and he didn’t do anything at all.
“He looks unfit, he looks unmotivated, there’s no sign of a new deal and I think he’s just seeing it out until the end of the season.
“They’ll maybe try to get a deal done in January but if you’re a Rangers supporter watching his performance you’re disappointed. You’re disappointed with the work rate and his performance levels.
“He’s a shadow of the young, hungry player they had at the start when he came in for £1million.
“That was a real bargain. But at this moment in time, you’re not getting that money back.”
Morelos has played 19 times in all competitions this season, mainly as a substitute. He’s scored three goals in those outings with all of them coming in the league.
His contract expires at the end of the season.
