Pundit amazed Rangers didn’t sign Lewis Ferguson as English transfer predicted
Tam McManus is “amazed” Rangers didn’t try and sign midfielder Lewis Ferguson before the 23-year-old moved to Serie A side Bologna.
Ferguson has previously been linked with a move to Ibrox (The Daily Record, 26 January) and is impressing in Italy.
His latest exploits have impressed McManus and he’s suggested Ferguson will be moving onto bigger and better things in the not-too-distant future.
“Flying. Amazed that Rangers didn’t try & get him (though he has made the right move IMO going to Italy) would walk into the Rangers team,” said McManus (via Twitter, 12 November).
“Will go on to a bigger club in Serie A or England in 12-18 months.”
One that got away
Ferguson has followed the likes of Aaron Hickey in making the move to Italy to further his career. Hickey is now playing for Premier League side Brentford, and it would not be a surprise to see Ferguson follow in his footsteps. This does look like one that got away for the Light Blues.
Going forward, targeting younger players who can develop whilst at the club should be an avenue for Rangers to go down. There’s been plenty of success in the past with Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo the most notable assets for the Gers in recent years.

It appears the club haven’t quite got their transfer business right in and a change in how they recruit should maybe happen. Ferguson could well have been a similar signing to the likes of Ryan Jack, who has gone on to be a superb player for Rangers over the years. Younger Scottish talent should certainly be something they keep a keener eye on in the future.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are ready to bid £5million to beat Celtic to the signing of one of their long-term targets.
