Giovanni van Bronckhorst told to ‘flee the country’ after Rangers 1-1 draw v St Mirren

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is coming under increasing pressure at Rangers after they laboured to a 1-1 draw away at St Mirren on Saturday (12 November).

The Light Blues has captain James Tavernier to thank as he converted an 84th-minute penalty to level the scores and at least earn them a point on the road.

But the Bears demand more than that in the race for the Premiership title, in which they are now nine points in arrears, and Hugh Keevins has suggested that the boss gets out of Glasgow as soon as possible.

Rangers

St Mirren’s ground is nice and handy for Glasgow Airport,” he wrote in his Daily Record column. “You couldn’t have blamed Giovanni van Bronckhorst if Rangers’ manager had taken advantage of that close proximity, and a lunch-time kick-off, to flee the country at high speed once the final whistle had signalled more dropped points yesterday.

“The man has been through enough from a variety of sources – myself included – to have earned a period of rest and recreation with his family in the Netherlands.

“And the anger of fans only increased after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren. All of this goes with the managerial territory, of course, when you’re operating within the uniquely claustrophobic world of the Old Firm.”

Time’s up

It’s been a year since the Dutchman took over from Steven Gerrard at Ibrox and there have not been any obvious improvements or changes in that time.

Even the run to the Europa League final is not likely to save van Bronckhorst’s job for too long if the Hoops keep on pulling out bigger and bigger leads at the top of the table.

Rangers

It wouldn’t be so worrying if Rangers were constantly banging on the door but coming up against a goalkeeper in the form of his life but in truth, there are very few good chances being created.

Somehow, the title is still in the Light Blues’ hands despite their dreadful form but one more dropped point and they will have to rely on Ange Postecoglu’s side failing against somebody else to wrestle back control.

By that point, however, van Bronckhorst could easily be out of a job at Ibrox because losing to Celtic is simply not acceptable for any Rangers manager and he has not managed to get on top of his opposite number once.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson claimed that the Gers manager seemed to hand in his resignation letter after his odd team selection against Hearts.
