Filip Helander undergoes surgery with Rangers return date earmarked

Filip Helander has undergone successful surgery on a foot issue and is looking to return for Rangers in February or March of 2023, according to the Scottish Daily Express.

The Swedish defender has been blighted by injuries in recent years which has seen doubt grow over his future at the club with his contract expiring in the summer of 2023.

However, it’s been revealed (Scottish Daily Express, 13 November) that Helander is looking to revive his Rangers career, despite an exit potentially being on the cards.

Unlikely

This is somewhat surprising news to hear about Helander’s ambitions to return and make an impact for the Gers. The 29-year-old is one of a number of players who are facing an uncertain future at Ibrox. Surely it’s extremely unlikely for the Swede to be offered a new deal?

The Light Blues need a massive refresh in the summer, with there being too many older players who are coming to the latter stages of their careers. It’s refreshing to see Helander still committed to making an impact at Ibrox, but whether he will go on to feature regularly remains to be seen.

Helander’s foot problem has been a nagging issue for him with the 29-year-old really struggling to regain full fitness. Another defender to call upon at the end of the season is certainly not a bad thing for the Gers when the games come thick and fast.

Seeing the Swede making an impact for Rangers on the pitch would certainly be a surprise, but also warmly welcomed by the Ibrox faithful.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are ready to bid £5million to beat Celtic to the signing of one of their long-term targets.
