Dutch media react to Giovanni van Bronckhorst situation at Rangers as pressure grows

Dutch news outlet Voetbalprimeur have reacted to the growing pressure on Giovanni van Bronckhorst with the Rangers boss now in “heavy weather” at Ibrox.

The Dutchman has seen his job come under immense pressure in recent weeks with Saturday’s 1-1 draw against St Mirren the latest in a long, long list of disappointing results.

However, it appears the Rangers boss is set to cling onto his job for the time being, with there now being a break during the World Cup in Qatar.

The 47-year-old’s job is also a topic of conversation in his native Holland, with Voetbalprimeur (12 November) suggesting he has been in “heavy weather” for a number of weeks and that “it remains to be seen” if he will be in charge against Hibernian on 15 December.

Make a change

The time is surely right for the Gers to make a change in the managerial department. The Light Blues have picked up the odd victory here and there, but performances as a whole have been absolutely woeful. This group of players are clearly not playing for van Bronckhorst. It’s remarkable how multiple hammerings in the Champions League and poor performances in the league are not enough for the board to take action.

The World Cup break seems like the perfect time for a new manager to come in and get his ideas across to this group of players without having the immediate pressure of having to win football matches. Furthermore, with the January window fast approaching, the club would be taking a big gamble by allowing van Bronckhorst another opportunity to splash the cash.

It’s been a tough watch this season and fans are now growing restless. It promises to be an intriguing night on the 6 December when the club’s AGM is scheduled for.

There could well be a few strong questions asked of the board then.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson claimed that the Gers manager seemed to hand in his resignation letter after his odd team selection against Hearts.
