Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to hope Rangers squad save him v St Mirren as he fights sack

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to hope the Rangers squad save him in Saturday afternoon’s clash against St Mirren as he stares down the barrel of the sack, according to Andy Newport.

The Dutchman is in a fight to save his job and every Scottish Premiership game is vital to any chance he stands of surviving before the winter break.

Van Bronckhorst must hope his side doesn’t “slip” up against St Mirren, especially because it’s before a World Cup break that would leave time for a replacement to be lined up.

“Van Bronckhorst is fighting to keep hold of his job after a disastrous start to the season that has allowed Celtic to dart seven points clear in the title race,” said journalist Newport as quoted by the Daily Record.

“He faced a furious backlash from fans after last Sunday’s shock defeat to St Johnstone and will again have to hope his side do not slip up when they head to Paisley for today’s lunchtime clash with St Mirren in their final fixture before the World Cup shutdown.”

Ticking time bomb.

Anything other than a win for Van Bronckhorst on Saturday afternoon could spell the end of his reign at Ibrox.

The Dutchman needs a miracle to turn things around right now and he’s facing a massive uphill battle to change anything right now after the disaster of a season so far.

In football, there’s always a chance he may just do that, although as the week progresses it’s looking extremely unlikely. Even a massive performance against St. Mirren wouldn’t change a majority of fans’ opinions on Van Bronckhorst.

Opinions that are pretty clear right now, get rid of him and use the World Cup break to find a suitable replacement. This seems like the obvious decision to make regardless o the St. Mirren result.

Nevertheless, knowing how slow the Rangers board make their decisions it wouldn’t be surprising if they took their time on this one.

Van Bronckhorst is a ticking time bomb right now and it feels his inevitable sack is en route.
