Andy Walker savages Rangers defender Borna Barišić in first half v St Mirren

Sky Sports commentator Andy Walker unleashed on Rangers defender Borna Barisic in the first half against St Mirren on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers headed into the clash seven points off Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic and desperately needed a win before the World Cup break.

It was a golden opportunity for Barisic to stake his claim as one of Rangers’ go-to defenders, nevertheless, he left Walker looking for answers.

Speaking during live commentary of the game on Sky Sports (12.20), Walker was left extremely unimpressed with Barisic’s defending.

“Poor defending from Barisic, Curtis Main should not win that as cleanly as he does,” exclaimed Walker.

Physical.

It was a first 45 minutes of big crunching tackles and nerves aplenty for Rangers.

Beating St. Mirren at home is no easy feat and despite controlling large proportions of the first-half Rangers found it tough to cut through their stubborn defence.

St. Mirren also had some chances to score and Rangers’ defence looked far too leaky, a sight Light Blues fans have become all too familiar with.

Scott Wright looked the liveliest player in the first half, featuring from the start for the first time since August, he marauded up the right-hand side as much as he possibly could.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the performance fans were wanting to see from Rangers and their poor form at the moment is plain for all to see.

Even a draw this afternoon may see the curtains pulled on van Bronckhorst’s time at Ibrox, a loss would almost certainly dam the Dutchman.

In a pretty equal first half, fans are left looking for answers yet again.

In other Rangers news, two managers with a lot of English Premier League experience have been named as “serious contenders” for the Ibrox job
