Barry Ferguson makes plea to Rangers board as Giovanni van Bronckhorst decision made
Barry Ferguson has urged the Rangers board to back Giovanni van Bronckhorst with fresh investment after choosing not to sack him.
Despite dropping seven points behind Celtic in the title race and being booed off the pitch at St Johnstone last weekend, Van Bronckhorst has been afforded more time to turn things around at Ibrox.
The Dutchman finds himself under huge pressure, but ex-Rangers ace Ferguson thinks that the board would’ve sacked him by now if it was in their plans.

“If the men at the top of the marble staircase were going to bin the Ibrox boss, they’d have done it by now,” insisted Ferguson via his Daily Record column.
“So if, as it now seems, they are going to stand by my old team-mate, it’s about time they gave him some proper backing in January and the best possible chance at turning this campaign around before it really collapses.
“There’s just no getting away from the fact that recruitment hasn’t been good enough.”
Recruitment needed regardless
Frankly, it doesn’t matter whether it’s Van Bronckhorst in the Ibrox hot seat or someone else in January – the board have no excuse to not invest in the squad over the winter.

After posting record-high profits in the latest accounts update, Rangers have nowhere to hide when it comes to reinvesting it back into the club.
Van Bronckhorst was hard done by in the summer after he was handed a shoestring budget after leading the side to a European final.
The board have been made to regret that decision as Rangers’ squad has been exposed for being too thin and old this season. The injury crisis at Ibrox has forced Van Bronckhorst to play players completely out of position on numerous occasions.
It shows the board’s incompetence when it comes to the transfer window, and they quickly need to rectify it in January. – whether it be for Van Bronckhorst or a new manager.
