Sweeping Rangers boardroom changes ‘may well’ happen – Chris Jack

Rangers could be set for a “sweeping overhaul” at boardroom level in the future, says The Herald’s Chris Jack.

The decision-makers at Ibrox are set to come under intense scrutiny in the coming weeks and months with the AGM pencilled in for 6 December.

Jack has suggested that “in time” changes may well happen in the Ibrox boardroom to bring about fresh ideas at the club.

“Calls for a sweeping overhaul at boardroom level have accompanied the clamour for the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the removal of Ross Wilson, the sporting director, as Rangers have been outclassed in the Champions League and stumbled in the Premiership,” he wrote in his latest column for The Herald (9 November).

“In time, there may well be changes at the top. The make-up of the RIFC plc board and executive positions should never be set in stone and new faces and fresh ideas every so often are no bad thing.”

Plenty of change

Ideally, there needs to be a change from the top down for Rangers in the coming years. Much like Jack alluded to, fresh ideas are by no means a bad thing for the club to consider. Sometimes, tenures can run their course, and right now it does feels as if the board at Ibrox does need a shake-up.

With Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s position teetering on the edge, the January window fast approaching, and plenty of players out of contract in the summer, there are some huge decisions which need to be made by the board who are currently occupying Ibrox.

Whether this group of directors can be trusted to make these crucial decisions for the club is very much up for debate. Fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of the upcoming AGM, with there being no place to hide for the board when it comes to their summer spending at the club.

Rangers certainly received some sizable sums and it’s fair to say that wasn’t replicated when it came to players coming into the club.
