Michael Stewart reacts to what Ryan Kent did on BBC Sportscene in Rangers win v Hearts

Michael Stewart has praised Ryan Kent for his involvement in Malik Tillman’s winning goal for Rangers in their 1-0 victory over Hearts.

The American netted in the 66th minute of the Scottish Premiership encounter to light up another drab performance from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Stewart has previously alluded to Kent “sorely lacking” form this season (The Times, 4 October), but praised the 25-year-old for his neat footwork in the lead-up to Tillman’s winner.

“It’s a good bit of play from Ryan Kent, far too often he doesn’t have that impact. Barisic overlapping picks out Tillman really well and it’s a nice neat finish from the American,” said Stewart (27:40, 9 November, BBC Sportscene).

Not convincing

Well, it was a win for van Bronckhorst, but it certainly wasn’t in the convincing manner that many fans had hoped for. His side yet again scraped over the line, with a lifeless and lacklustre display for the most part. The Ibrox faithful wanted to see a performance that provided some hope for the future, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

The one positive for the Gers was the performance of Kent, who was much improved from his display against St Johnstone on Sunday (6 November). It’s now up to the former Liverpool man to show some consistency. The Light Blues now face a trip to St Mirren in their final fixture before the World Cup break.

Rangers

If van Bronckhorst can scrape through with a win, then there’s a good chance he would have saved his job at least until when the league resumes in December. The World Cup break seems like an excellent time to make a change in the dugout, but considering some of the results which have already occurred, the board would have surely already pulled the trigger by now.

In other Rangers news, this former Premier League manager is a “standout” choice to replace van Bronckhorst if he’s sacked.
