Alfredo Morelos finds Rangers situation unacceptable with Ibrox 'cult hero' destined to leave - pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alfredo Morelos “won’t accept” being the second-choice striker at Rangers and that will solidify his stance on leaving Ibrox in 2023, according to Tam McManus.

Morelos, 26, is out of contract at the end of the season and will be able to agree a deal to join another club as early as January.

He’s struggled for game time for Giovanni van Bronckhorst this term, failing to start a single Scottish Premiership game amid concerns about his fitness, form and attitude.

Antonio Colak was signed from PAOK in the summer and he’s been the starting striker for van Bronckhorst on the majority of occasions.

And all signs are pointing towards Morelos, along with Ryan Kent, walking out of Ibrox next year in search of a bigger pay day.

“Morelos is like a cult hero among Rangers supporters but I don’t see him playing,” McManus told Ibrox News.

I think Colak has been excellent this season, he’s been a real bright spark. Since they’ve signed him, he’s scored a lot of goals, he’s fit, he’s strong, he looks lean.

Morelos looks as if he’s carrying weight.

I don’t see Morelos being that type of back-up striker. He won’t accept that at Rangers – he wants to be the main man.

He and Ryan Kent are going to run their contracts down, I think that’s clear now.

They’ll want to go somewhere on a free and get a few quid.

Whether Rangers are going to allow that, I don’t know. But I don’t see anybody bidding big money for two players who’ve been out of form for the last calendar year.”

Morelos has played 242 times in all competitions and scored 115 goals since joining Rangers from HJK Helsinki in 2017.

In other Rangers news, this former Premier League manager is a “standout” choice to replace van Bronckhorst if he’s sacked.
