Rangers investors to bang on Ibrox door wanting their money back as £30m view shared by pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Tam McManus has warned Rangers fans that the club may not have as much money in the bank as first assumed after they qualified for the Champions League group stages this season.

Supporters were left disappointed when Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson failed to sign any new players after they beat PSV in the qualifiers.

There’s also been huge pressure on van Bronckhorst and there are rumours circulating that the Dutchman hasn’t been sacked yet because firing him and hiring someone else isn’t affordable.

It’s something that McManus believes could be the case at Ibrox and hopes there’ll be answers for concerned fans at the club’s AGM next month.

“It’s got to be concerning for Rangers,” McManus told Ibrox News.

I think that the directors have been preparing fans for this AGM.

There are a lot of supporters who are angry and frustrated that they didn’t splash out more once they beat PSV in the Champions League.

There was talk of £30million, £40million. I don’t think the figures are as much as that.

I just don’t think Rangers made as much money as the supporters think they did and you’ve got to remember that this is a club that doesn’t need money.

In the last 10 years, they’ve made huge losses so there are people putting up money for Rangers to get them competitive, to get them in the Champions League and stop Celtic from winning 10 in a row.

All these guys are going to want their money back at some point. When Rangers qualified [for the Champions League group stages], they could have been knocking on the door saying, ‘any chance I can get my money back?’.

I just think that money is tight at Rangers and they’ve got to get back to being a profitable organisation. If that means tightening their belt, so be it.”

In other Rangers news, this former Premier League manager is a “standout” choice to replace van Bronckhorst if he’s sacked.
