Pundit surely right as recent comments on Rangers finances make Giovanni van Bronckhorst sack stance clear
Tam McManus has suggested Rangers don’t have the financial capability to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and after comments this season, he could be right.
The pressure was once again heaped on the shoulders of the Dutchman after his side slumped to a dreadful 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday (6 November).
However, van Bronckhorst is still at the helm at Ibrox and McManus has suggested the process of recruiting a new manager could be too much for the Light Blues.

Talking on the PLZ Football show (02:49, 7 November), he said: “He’s obviously come in on a big contract with a big pedigree after doing very well at Feyenoord and brought three or four of his staff with him. It’s going to be a big outlay for Rangers to pay them all off and then get a new management team in.
“I think they may limp on until the World Cup break and try and strengthen during that window.”
These comments from McManus could well be true considering what noises we have heard from Stewart Robertson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst in recent months.
Rangers’ managing director Robertson has previously downplayed the amount the Gers would receive in the Champions League.
“Unless we perform really well, get through to the next round, even get through to the last eight, we are probably not getting anywhere close to £40m,” he said (Rangers Review, 21 September).
We have also heard a similar sort of thing from van Bronckhorst in regard to finances at the club with the Dutchman insisting it’s “too much to ask” (quoted by the Daily Mail, 8 September) for the Gers to compete in Europe.
So could the Gers’ lack of financial prowess really be impacted their ability to sack van Bronckhorst?
With the World Cup break approaching, now seems like the ideal time for the board to relieve the 47-year-old from his post and begin the search for a new manager. If a new man is in place for the extended break, it would be the ideal time for him to get his ideas across to the players.

The big concern for fans is that the board will be in charge of making decisions regarding van Bronckhorst and a manager who could come in to potentially replace him. After their summer antics or lack of, there can’t be much confidence in the decision-makers at Ibrox to make the right calls.
