Giovanni van Bronckhorst reacts when official Rangers partner suggests new signings at Ibrox

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was asked by Four Lads Had A Dream whether or not winter investment is on the cards for Rangers in January.

There’s no guarantee that Van Bronckhorst will still be in the Ibrox hot seat come January, but if the Dutchman does survive the current calls for his sacking, then he’ll turn his sights to the winter transfer window.

But when asked by Four Lads Had A Dream whether or not new arrivals was a priority, Van Bronckhorst insisted that winning is the only thing on his mind.

As revealed on Twitter, Van Bronckhorst answered: “Win, doesn’t matter how we do it, we win and then everything else comes, players return, confidence return, win, it’s all that matters.”

Investment is needed

Regardless of who calls themself Rangers manager in January, the board need to make sure that they are backed with winter investment.

After a stunning Europa League run last season, Van Bronckhorst was hardly backed by the board in the summer and only ended up spending roughly half of Calvin Bassey’s £23million transfer fee [Sky Sports]

That’s simply inexcusable from the board, especially as Van Bronckhorst has now been left with an incredibly thin and incredibly old squad this season.

If the board do keep faith with Van Bronckhorst over January, then they need to follow it up by opening their wallet. If a new manager is in place, they will also want financial backing to start overhauling the squad.

Van Bronckhorst understandably wants to focus on getting immediate results with matches against Hearts and St Mirren remaining before the World Cup break begins, but behind the scenes, Gers should already be identifying targets for over the winter.

If they fail to invest once again, then frankly it doesn’t matter who is the manager. Rangers need a major squad rebuild and it has to start in January.
