Giovanni van Bronckhorst fails to save Rangers job, he’s doomed for sack despite 1-0 win v Hearts

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still doomed to be sacked by Rangers despite overseeing a 1-0 win against Hearts at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Even though Malik Tillman’s goal earned the Light Blues all three points, the performance wasn’t convincing enough and the Dutchman should still be sent packing in the next few days.

We can understand why the board haven’t made a move yet because they might as well give van Bronckhorst the chance to see out the remaining games before the World Cup break, which starts after this weekend.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Rangers have been utterly humiliated in Europe this season.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League group stages being a massive achievement in itself, the white flag was waved as soon as Group A saw the Gers faced with Liverpool, Napoli and Ajax.

A few months later and we’re written down in history as the worst-ever team in Champions League group-stage history thanks to six gutless thrashings.

And in the Scottish Premiership, things aren’t much better.

We’ve been hammered by Celtic this season and have been less than convincing in games that we should be winning with ease – such as the latest win over Hearts.

Rangers’ defeat to St Johnstone was the last straw though. Only a hammering of Hearts would have been enough to keep van Bronckhorst in the job past the World Cup break.

It’s St Mirren up next and we fully expect van Bronckhorst to be in charge of that game because the board probably don’t see the point of getting rid of him now when the wheels may already be in motion to replace him.

Let’s hope and pray they are.

Nothing can save Gio now. His position is untenable.

In other Rangers news, this former Premier League manager is a “standout” choice to replace van Bronckhorst if he’s sacked.
