Rangers could be short of funds to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his assistants – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Rangers may lack the funds to afford sacking Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his coaching staff as well as hiring a replacement, according to Tam McManus.

Van Bronckhorst’s men lost 2-1 away at St Johnstone on Sunday to drop seven points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

He’s set to remain in charge at Ibrox on Wednesday night (9 November) when Hearts arrive in Glasgow but the pressure has built massively on the Dutchman in the last month or so [The Athletic].

A major issue that cropped up for the Gers in the summer was when they failed to sign any new players after they beat PSV and qualified for the Champions League group stages.

Former striker McManus believes that failure to spend then could suggest that funds are tight at Ibrox and that sacking and replacing van Bronckhorst may not be feasible.

“Rangers have got a bit of time to think about it,” Manus told Ibrox News.

“They brought him in on a contract and I think he brought four assistants in so the cost of sacking them would be massive. And then you’ve got to get somebody else in.

There’s a lack of a real, credible replacement at the minute, which is helping him as well.

I don’t think he’s going to last at Rangers. I think they might wait it out until the end of the season.

Seven points behind, they’re just about in the title race still and they’re still in the cups.

I think he’ll get a stay of execution but I’m pretty sure now that Celtic will win the league.

In other Rangers news, only one player can save van Bronckhorst from the sack – and he was ironically axed by the Dutchman this season.
