Kenny Miller shares sack verdict on Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Kenny Miller has suggested that the Rangers board need to give “serious thought” to the managerial situation currently unfolding at Ibrox.

Miller, who also works for BT Sport, has remained tight-lipped on whether Giovanni van Bronckhorst should be sacked after a shocking run of form continued.

The Gers lost their previous game 2-1 against St Johnstone and are now seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race before the World Cup.

“That’s not for me to say,” said Miller, as quoted by the Daily Record (8 November, page 48).

“I’ve got my own thoughts on it but in that building, there needs to be some serious thought going into that question.

“There is something not right at the moment. You never like to see managers lose their jobs. But there needs to be some questions asked, there needs to be a lot of thought going into it and there needs to be improvements.”

Needs to go

It appears that Rangers are still hesitant about sacking the Dutchman and they could take time until World Cup to see if the results improve.

Van Bronckhorst took the club to the final of the Europa League last season, and also won the Scottish Cup, and some might feel that he deserves more time.

He has to rebuild the squad in the summer following the departures of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and others, and injuries to senior players haven’t helped the cause.

At the same time, Van Bronckhorst has failed to provide that confidence that his side can challenge Celtic all the way to win the Scottish Premiership title. Last season, they dropped points and allowed Celtic to leapfrog them in the title race.

This season, they are nowhere near their rivals in every department. At one point, the gap was down to two points only. Instead of putting pressure on their rivals, Rangers simply drifted away. That shows, the Dutchman probably is not the right man for the club.

The damage has already been done. The club must act quickly here to salvage the season.
