Alfredo Morelos Rangers exit surely settled after what he did v St Johnstone

Alfredo Morelos’ time as a Rangers player is surely coming to an end with the Colombian clearly a man who is looking to pastures new.

The striker has just three goals to his name so far in the 2022/23 campaign, with his form nowhere near what we have been used to in recent years. The 26-year-old did suffer an injury at the back end of last season, but he is now back to full fitness and a complete shadow of his previous self.

He looks devoid of confidence in front of goal, slow on his feet, and a man destined to move on soon. His contract talks, or lack of them, have clearly not gone anywhere, with the striker free to leave Ibrox in the summer.

If Rangers fans weren’t already aware of Morelos’ lack of effort and desire, then his latest performance against St Johnstone told us all we needed to know.

In his 35-minute cameo for van Bronckhorst’s side, Morelos managed just one shot (which was off target, Wyscout), zero crosses and dribbles, and just two touches in the St Johnstone box. For a player who was introduced to make an impact on the game, it’s simply not good enough and reeks of a player who is not committed to the club long-term.

The 26-year-old has been a good servant for the Gers over the years, but the time is right for him to move on after becoming stagnant at Ibrox. Morelos, along with a number of senior players should move on either in January or the summer to give Rangers the platform for a complete squad overhaul.

How important the next two windows are for Rangers cannot be understated.
