Kris Boyd hits out at Rangers summer additions and makes ‘crucial’ transfer window claim

Kris Boyd has suggested the upcoming transfer windows for Rangers could be the “biggest in the club’s history” with the Gers’ summer signings underperforming.

Rangers have sold the likes of Calvin Bassey, Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo in recent years, with the club receiving some substantial transfer fees.

Boyd now believes the club simply has to invest in the next two windows with a number of players out of contract in the summer.

Rangers

Talking on Sky Sports, [11:23, 6 November] he said: “Rangers have spent money, they did spend money in the summer, the signings have just not been good enough. They simply have to spend money in the next two windows. The next two windows, for me, are arguably the biggest in the club’s history.

“There are ten or eleven players out of contract in the summer, they’re going to have to rebuild. The manager can’t come out and say they’re going to get players in and then not do it. They’re absolutely crucial, there’s no getting away from it.”

Not good

Something isn’t quite right at Ibrox at the moment, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst failing to get the most out of this group of players who are lacking quality, confidence and form at present. It does feel as if something may have to give for Rangers to enjoy any success this season.

After Sunday’s [6 November] defeat to St Johnstone, van Bronckhorst is surely staring the sack in the face. There are a lot of things wrong, with the lack of investment in the summer impacting the performance on the pitch massively. This is an ageing squad which needed genuine refreshing, which never materialised.

Rangers

With the World Cup fast approaching, it does feel as if the time could be right for a fresh face in the dugout. But whether the board at Ibrox will be able to make the right decision is very much in doubt. The Dutchman probably should’ve been out of a job a long time ago, and their insistence to remain faithful to him potentially indicates that no work has been done to find a successor.

In other Rangers news, this Celtic chief wants private talks with the Gers after an incident that was brought up at their AGM.
