Keith Jackson: Giovanni van Bronckhorst must be sacked at Rangers for his own good

Rangers suffered a massive blow in the Scottish Premiership title race after they lost 2-1 against St Johnstone on Sunday (6 November) away from home.

Keith Jackson, the Daily Record columnist, has suggested that it’s time for the Dutchman to go for his own good.

After taking the squad to the Europa League final last season, the Bears have regressed under him, and there are no signs of improvement at the moment.

Rangers

“So if the penny didn’t drop for Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Sunday lunchtime in Perth, then it may be an act of kindness for someone at Rangers to remove him from the firing line for the sake of his own sense of wellbeing,” wrote Jackson for the Daily Record.

“Because the beleaguered Dutchman now looks like a man who is completely bewildered by the task he is being asked to confront.”He’s now reached the point when he’s in danger of doing more harm than good. It seldom ends well from here.”

Spot on

The Dutchman probably overachieved last season by taking the squad to the Europa League final.

Let’s not forget, he took the job when the Bears actually had a lead over Celtic in the league. He couldn’t maintain that and lost the title in the process.

Probably, he is a good manager for cup games, but his tactics over the season have been baffling.

Rangers

As it stands, Rangers are likely to drop more points in their upcoming games if this trend continues. It feels like the Dutchman has not got clue how to get a result away from home.

The football being played now is slow and boring, and there is no creativity at all. The truth is, Van Bronckhorst messed it up completely, and he doesn’t even know his best eleven.

It’s time for him to go. The club needs a re-start and must use the World Cup break to find the right candidate for this team. The season can still be salvaged if they sack him now.

In other Rangers news, this Celtic chief wants private talks with the Gers after an incident that was brought up at their AGM.
