Rangers: James Tavernier wows Ally McCoist with ‘delicious’ moment v St Johnstone

James Tavernier was up to his usual self for Rangers against St Johnstone and Ally McCoist was drooling at the Light Blues’ captain.

The Gers’ right-back was marauding down the flank and putting in some delightful crosses at McDiarmid Park that caused mayhem in the Saints’ defence with Antonio Colak and company lurking to convert.

McCoist, fresh off his heroics on the BBC’s ‘The Wheel’ on Saturday night (5 November), was in awe of Tavernier and the sheer quality of his crossing ability.

“What a cross from Tavernier I’ve got to say,” McCoist said [Sky Sports Football, 6 November, 12:05pm]. “Lovely ball put into that area of No Man’s Land.

“Tillman doesn’t quite know what to do whether he is onside or not but it’s a delicious ball in. Tillman maybe should have gone at it with his left foot but a great move.”

Marvellous

The best part of this is that it wasn’t just once that Tavernier put in a ball of that kind of quality but it was every time he got the ball in the first half.

There wasn’t a single delivery that was overly wayward and even if it didn’t quite hit the intended target, it took a brilliant clearing header to divert it away from danger.

Rangers

Having such a threat from deep positions makes Rangers an incredibly tough team to defend against because the full-back for St Johnstone already has the lively Fashion Sakala to worry about.

That leaves the winger having to track very far back and then not being upfield to spring a counter-attack and that is where Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side can start to suffocate their opponents.

It only ever seems a matter of time until the pressure pays off and St Johnstone will succumb to it the more they get squeezed into their own area.

In other Rangers news, Tom English was left gobsmacked by what was asked during the Celtic AGM as shareholders took aim at the Light Blues.
