Ian Crocker and Ally McCoist rave about ‘exceptional’ John Lundstram moment in St Johnstone v Rangers
Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday afternoon, but John Lundstram came within inches of levelling things at McDiarmid Park.
Despite dominating much of the match, Rangers left McDiarmid Park empty-handed on Sunday after goals from James Clark and James Brown inflicted defeat.
James Tavernier clawed one back for Gers, and things could’ve been very different if John Lundstram’s late strike hit the back of the net – instead, it rattled the crossbar from range.

It was a fierce strike from the Gers defender, and Sky Sports duo Ian Crocker and Ally McCoist were both wowed by the moment.
Speaking via Sky Sports (6 November, 1:31pm), Crocker said: “Lundstram clatters the bar. What an exceptional effort from John Lundstram.”
McCoist then chimed in with his opinion: “What a strike of a football that is. What a hit that was.” A few minutes later he added: “This is unbelievable this. What a hit.”
Too little, too late
Rangers started Sunday’s match brilliantly and looked to be the only side threatening to score for the first half an hour. However, Giovanni van Bronckhorst cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines as he watched his players waste a number of shots.
St Johnstone punished Rangers’ lack of composure with a goal just before the break, and again Gers were caught napping in the second half.

It’s too common this season that Rangers find themselves chasing a match. Tavernier ended up clawing one back but truthfully Gers should’ve been out of sight by half-time.
It was partially down to bad luck, and Lundstram’s effort wasn’t the first time Rangers had hit the woodwork on Sunday. But there’s no excuse for not finding the net in the first half. Antonio Colak and Ryan Kent were both wasteful and blunt.
If Van Bronckhorst is to keep his job at Ibrox, he needs to get his side starting games well and capitalising on their early dominance.
