Andy Walker shares Rangers conspiracy theory live on Sky Sports as he blasts ‘nonsense’ he’s heard from Ibrox

Rangers might not have enough money to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and find a new manager to replace him, according to Andy Walker.

The former Celtic striker shared his conspiracy theory live on Sky Sports after Rangers lose 2-1 to St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, which ended with away fans loudly booing their Dutch manager and his players off the pitch.

Walker refuses to believe noises he’s heard coming out of Ibrox with regards to the strength of the squad but claims there might not be much the board can do about the managerial situation due to tight funds.

“I think he’s a clever guy. I think he’s a smart coach,” said Walker on Sky Sports Football on Sunday (6 November, 02:20pm).

“I think anyone who can get to the Europa League final with a good squad knows what he’s doing.

“I think there’s a lot of nonsense coming out of Ibrox in so much as this is the best squad Rangers have had over the last number of years.

“I don’t believe it for a second.

“And if Rangers can’t strengthen post-qualification for the Champions League, then surely they’re unable to afford to get rid of a manager, his backroom staff, get another manager in and give him funds to spend.

“I don’t think the budget’s there.”

Absolute rubbish

Just because Rangers didn’t spend the money we thought they would after qualification to the Champions League group stages doesn’t mean they’re broke.

How much money did we make from selling Joe Aribo, Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey?

How much money did we win from qualifying for the Champions League group stages?

How much money did we gain last season from the Europa League and from our title-winning campaign the season before that?

Walker is talking out of his backside and his weird obsession with the Gers’ finances is why he’s not welcome at Ibrox anymore.

Rangers haven’t sacked van Bronckhorst yet because they probably didn’t want to do it too soon when there’s a good month-long break to do so coming up.

After next weekend, the World Cup break will start and that will be the perfect time to find a new manager to replace the Dutchman.

Other than getting to the Europa League final and beating PSV in the Champions League play-off, van Bronckhorst has overseen a huge decline in his time at Ibrox.

Domestically, we’re not good enough. And while it’s great to see us do well in Europe, domestic performances are of paramount importance.
