Rangers appear to have big money to make January signings after Simon Jordan claim

Rangers may have ended their Champions League campaign as the worst-ever team in the competition, but they appear to have made decent money.

Simon Jordan believes that this was not money that they budgeted for and they’ll certainly not say no the additional windfall.

With the January window now around the corner, it makes sense for the hierarchy to keep a chunk of the money to improve the first team squad.

Jordan said on talkSPORT, via Glasgow Times on 3 November, “They finished 31 out of the 32 teams, so they got a coefficient payment of another £2.5million. That’s them up to £18million there.

“Then you’ve got the ability to sell tickets for Champions League games. I understand they were selling them for about £50 or £60 a pop. There were three-game packages being sold for an average price of around £160. Now, you’ve got about another £8-9million coming in with gate receipts.

“All of a sudden, you’ve got in and around £30million coming into the club that you would never have budgeted for because of the Champions League and all of its component parts.”

Ross Wilson and the Gers hierarchy did not back the manager even after Champions League qualification was secured.

Despite the additional windfall set to come in, they gave Giovanni van Bronckhorst the same side they would’ve had Gers been in the Europa League.

This was always a disaster waiting to happen and their disastrous European campaign proved that to be the case.

Had Rangers been a few points worse off in the league, we believe that the club would’ve sacked the Dutchman.

They still could do that during the World Cup break and if they do or even decide to keep him, it is of paramount importance that they shell out money in January.
