Chris Sutton lays into Ally McCoist for Rangers poor UEFA Champions League campaign

Chris Sutton was left in hysterics as Ally McCoist tried to brush off Rangers torrid UEFA Champions League campaign on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra.

Rangers finished as the worst ever group stage team since the tournament began in 1992 after Tuesday evening’s loss to Ajax at Ibrox.

Sutton cheekily asked McCoist whether Rangers would still be playing “that Tina Turner song” at Ibrox, referring to the famous Ibrox anthem “simply the best”.

“Are they still going to be playing Tina Turner at Ibrox in the future, Ally,” said a smirking Sutton speaking on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra.

“Well I’d of thought they’d be giving that song a few weeks rest,” replied McCoist.

“There is no way that I’ll be taking any solace at all that Rangers are flying the flag in terms of the co-efficient for Scottish teams because it’s been a very poor campaign.”

“He’s taking solace in the co-efficient cup, you couldn’t make McCoist up.” Sutton responded in hysterics.

Never-ending.

It seems the Champions League banter will be never-ending, of course, Rangers had to go and get the worst-ever record.

If you don’t laugh you’ll cry, it will be nice to put this season’s torrid performances in Europe behind us and move on to hopefully bigger things.

Celtic wasn’t much if any better than Gers in Europe this campaign and the outlook for Scottish football as a whole looks extremely bleak.

Domestically, there is still everything to play for and a resounding win over Sutton’s Celtic in the Scottish Premiership will give Gers some ammo.

St. Johnstone on Sunday afternoon is a must-win and needed after Tuesday night’s woeful outing, the light Blues must fully focus on putting everything into winning that league title now.

Anything less than that will cast further doubts over Giovanni van Bronckhort’s leadership, he needs all the points and positives he can get right now.

In other Rangers news, a “crazy situation” has emerged at Ibrox that’s led to this star player being “gone” from the club.
