Conservative MP hits out ‘shocking’ £50million Rangers news after latest news
Scottish Conservative MP Russell Findley has brandished the £50million litigation fees involved in the wrongful prosecution of Rangers as “shocking”.
BBC News reported (2 November) that a Holyrood committee heard that fees legal fees were now “just under £51million”.
Compensation payments were made after a number of individuals were wrongfully prosecuted after being involved with the acquisition and sale of Rangers Football Club.
Findley was less than impressed with the amount that has been spent on the case After the meeting, Mr Findlay said the figures were “shocking” (quoted by BBC News, 2 November)
“While it’s reassuring to hear that this won’t come from Crown budgets – it is a huge sum that should have been spent on vital public services.”
He added: “This toxic episode saw innocent men targeted, it has contaminated Scottish justice and there may be more pay outs, yet absolutely no-one has been held to account.”

Those are some huge statements from the MP, who is clearly sick to death of Rangers’ still making the headlines for off-the-field reasons. There should now be hope that the Gers’ demise will never be allowed to happen again with the authorities better equipped to provide support and prevent clubs from teetering on the brink in the first place.
Light Blues fans will be hoping that one day they won’t be front page news so regularly. The club’s fall was nearly ten years ago, yet there are still ongoing issues that are still yet to be resolved. Things are by no means great on the pitch at the moment, but at least the club aren’t close to financial ruin.
The Ibrox board have certainly come under scrutiny in the 2022/23 season, and rightfully so after an inactive summer on the transfer front, however, at least the Gers are in a better place when it comes to the accounts.
