£2m bid for Alfredo Morelos would be accepted by Rangers in January – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Tam McManus believes Rangers would cash in on Alfredo Morelos if they receive a bid worth around £2million for him in the January transfer window.

Morelos, 26, has been in rotten form for the Light Blues this season, compounded by a horrific open-goal miss in his side’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Ajax on Tuesday night (1 November).

The Colombia international’s contract expires next summer, meaning he could be offered a pre-contract deal by another club in January.

McManus believes that Rangers should hang onto Morelos if they don’t receive much money for him in the winter transfer window but if they do receive a seven-figure offer, it could tempt them into cashing in on the striker to avoid losing him for free six months later.

“The fact he’s not signed a new deal yet, I think Rangers won’t give him an ultimatum but will be saying to him, ‘listen, are you going to sign or not?’,” McManus told Ibrox News.

If he’s not going to sign by January then they’ll try to sell him.

I don’t know how much money they’d get for him.

He’s not been in the team, he’s not playing regularly and he looks out of shape to me.

Would someone pay money for him when you can get him for free in the summer? I don’t know.

I think Rangers may as well keep him unless they get an offer of a few million, which is debatable.

If they get offered a couple of million then cash in but if not, then I don’t see the point in selling him for £500,000 or something nominal when they can keep him in the squad for the full season.”

Morelos has scored just three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has refused to start him in a single Scottish Premiership game amid concerns about his fitness and attitude.

In other Rangers news, a “crazy situation” has emerged at Ibrox that’s led to this star player being “gone” from the club.
