Giovanni van Bronckhorst future at Rangers assessed as ‘massive’ verdict dropped by pundit
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Giovanni van Bronckhorst relieved the pressure on his position as Rangers manager with the 4-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday, according to Tam McManus.
The Light Blues completely outclassed the Dons despite going a goal down early on and they could have won by an even greater margin if their finishing was a bit better.
Despite Scottish Mail on Sunday journalist Gary Keown reporting on 23 October [print edition, page 144] that van Bronckhorst is “finished“, McManus believes he went a long way towards saving his job at Ibrox with that big victory at the weekend.

However, according to the ex-Scotland Under-21s striker, it’s imperative that Rangers keep on winning to keep up with Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.
“That was a massive result for him,” McManus told Ibrox News.
“He needed that emphatic win just to calm a few nerves amongst the supporters, I think.
“With the way they’ve been playing, performances have been poor so they just need to keep winning games until the [World Cup] break.
“They cannot afford to drop any points because Celtic are in imperious form at the minute. They don’t look as though they’re dropping anything.
“The vital thing for Gio is to just keep winning and I watched the game, it was 4-1 but it could have been seven.

“Aberdeen had a go, which was fair enough, but they were wide open.
“Rangers missed a penalty and could have scored a few more.
“But that was a big victory for Rangers and a big statement for Gio. The pressure was building on him.”
Rangers face Ajax next on Tuesday night (1 November) as they get ready to bid farewell to the Champions League in a respectable fashion.
In other Rangers news, a “crazy situation” has emerged at Ibrox that’s led to this star player being “gone” from the club.
