Ben Davies and Ridvan Yilmaz ruled out of Rangers vs Ajax clash, Glen Kamara returns

Rangers will be without both Ben Davies and Ridvan Yilmaz for their Champions League showdown with Ajax on Tuesday, but Glen Kamara is fit again.

Both defenders were forced off in the 4-1 win over Aberdeen at the weekend with injuries, and now neither will be available for the midweek game which gives Giovanni van Bronckhorst major issues in his back line.

James Sands and Leon King are the only available centre-back options, while Borna Barisic is now all but certain to start at left-back with Yilmaz unavailable until after the World Cup.

There was some good news though, as Finland international Kamara has recovered from his injury and will be available to play in midfield.

John Lundstram is ruled out through suspension, meaning the Rangers squad is down to its bare bones for the huge game as we approach the World Cup break in a few weeks.

Terrible

There’s bad luck in these situations, but this seems like something deeper than that with how many players are dropping like flies.

Rangers are essentially down to a back four now in defence, while their midfield options are beginning to dwindle too, but in attack they’re overflowing with options and the boss must make a big call.

Ryan Kent’s terrible form continues, while both Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos got on the scoresheet in the win over Aberdeen to keep up the competition for places.

Kamara’s return is a huge boost to the side who have lacked dynamism in midfield in recent weeks, while Lundstram’s absence will be a huge blow to a side that he has become so instrumental in.

Van Bronckhorst will be desperate for at least a point to avoid a hugely unwanted record in the group stages, but most importantly they must avoid another humiliation at Ibrox.
