Barry Ferguson stunned by Rangers handling of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos

Barry Ferguson has delivered his damning verdict on Rangers’ handling of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos’ contracts.

The pair have yet to agree to new deals at Ibrox despite being massively influential during their time at the club.

Ferguson admitted he was “shocked” by Rangers handling of the pair and believes the club will now miss out on some vital money for them.

“I’m so surprised,” said Ferguson on the Go Radio Football Show as quoted by Football Scotland.

“Two players – when they go into the final 18 months or 12 months of their contracts, if they aren’t going to sign then you can get a fair transfer fee back for them.

“Now? I think the players are in control of the situation because come January, if Rangers are looking to get a couple of million for both of them, one of them might say: ‘No, I don’t fancy that and I’ll wait until the summer and go on a free transfer’.

“If a club is willing to pay whatever they’re willing to pay, they would probably get part of that as their contract if they waited until the summer.

“So I don’t know why it’s happened. The only people who can tell you the reasons are the people in the boardroom or Giovanni.

“I’m shocked that they’ve let it go this long.”

Rangers

Wasteful.

Kent and Morelos are both past the sell-by date in the light blue shirt, they’ve been lackluster and poor throughout this campaign.

Rangers should now do everything they can to capture some money for the pair, both could be sold for solid fees if they got their act together.

It seems Kent is just waiting to leave at the moment and his drop-off in form this season has been excruciating to watch at times.

Morelos on the other hand could be a useful cog in the team if he got himself fit and firing again, but he currently looks overweight and out of sorts.

Regardless, Ferguson is right about this, the club, as always, let this one go on for far too long and it seems both players could leave for free.

It will be frustrating to see two talents who were once the team’s go-to men leave for nothing this summer, but it’s hardly surprising from the Gers hierarchy.

In other Rangers news, this ex-Premier League manager is a “stand-out” to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the manager at Ibrox.
