BBC Scotland pundit baffled by Giovanni van Bronkhorst after woeful decision v Napoli

Mark Hateley has shared his doomsday verdict for Giovanni van Bronckhorst after the Rangers manager’s woeful decision v Napoli.

Rangers were convincingly beaten once again in Europe and now face a dread record of becoming the worst-ever side in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Hateley divulged that “alarm bells set off for him” after the side Giovanni van Bronckhorst picked to face Napoli on Wednesday evening was dropped.

“I was baffled by the side he picked in Naples,” said Hateley as quoted by BBC Sport.

“He played Scott Wright in a Champions League game against one of Europe’s form sides, but doesn’t use him domestically. Why? That sets off alarm bells for me.”

Strange.

The Rangers boss’s formation and starting XI on Wednesday evening was strange and it seems the Dutchman is doing everything he can to save some face right now.

You have to remember that Gers are still very much in the title race and despite the team’s current poor form they’ve managed to scrape points together regardless.

The Ibrox fans demand more however, and the squad’s current attitude and playing style stink, drastic changes need to be made.

But it feels like Gers are watching their season slowly slip away and it’s frustrating to see little plans in place should the inevitable doomsday for Van Bronckhorst come.

A defeat on Saturday to Aberdeen could be the final nail in the coffin for Van Bronckhorst, but the Rangers hierarchy has suggested little as to whether they would make a hasty decision.

If there was ever a time to turn things around it’s now, Van Bronckhorst will need a miracle to stand any chance of getting fans back on his side.

In other Rangers news, this Ibrox board member is “getting it in the neck” as an official partner calls for him to be sacked.
