Giovanni van Bronckhorst sack verdict shared as Barry Ferguson reveals ‘heated’ Rangers conversations

Barry Ferguson has revealed he has been involved in a few “heated conversations” over Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s future as Rangers boss.

The Gers face Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday (29 October) in what is shaping up to be a huge game for the Dutchman and his tenure at the club.

Ferguson believes van Bronckhorst should be given five games to turn the season around before the World Cup but did accept the Gers have to deliver a complete performance against the Dons.

Writing in his Daily Record Column (28 October), he said: “Look, I’m aware of the clamour growing for Gio’s head and I understand why the fans are unhappy. Let’s just say I’ve been involved in a few heated conversations with some pals who believe his time should be up already.

“But I’m not in that camp. In my view, he has five games now to turn this season around ahead of the World Cup. Anyone who reads this column regularly will know my view when it comes to getting results. About 99.9 per cent of the time it’s all about three points – it doesn’t matter how you get them.

“But this feels different to me. For once, I’m not sure a win will be enough to get the supporters back onside. No, Gio needs something bigger and better than just another grind. He needs a full-blooded, high-tempo, passion-fuelled 90-minute-long performance.”

Win or bust

The Gers cannot afford five more games of abject performances under the Dutchman. If he fails to turn it around before the World Cup, the Scottish Premiership will almost certainly be remaining at Parkhead. This weekend’s fixture against Aberdeen has a feel of last chance saloon about it.

Rangers

This group of players need to deliver a positive result, but also a performance which can provide everyone at the club with a bit of hope that van Bronckhorst can turn things around. The result in Naples, all things considered, was not a bad outcome for the Light Blues.

In fact, Rangers were unfortunate not to score in the second half with Alfredo Morelos missing a guild edge chance after excellent work from Ridvan Yilmaz. 3-0 against the best team in Europe at the moment is actually a decent result.

Let’s hope the Gers use the positives from Wednesday evening as a catalyst to go on a run in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, this Gers star was involved in a “naughty” incident that had a BT Sport pundit talking live on air.
