Keith Jackson predicts result of Rangers v Napoli in Champions League showdown

Rangers have been given zero chance of success when they face Napoli on Wednesday night in the Champions League by the Daily Record writing team.

The Gers have so far lost all four Champions League games this season, being handed heavy defeats by Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool twice as they were eliminated at the earliest possible stage of the tournament.

But the team are looking to avoid an unwanted record of the worst ever group stage in history when they travel to Naples to face the Serie A side again. That doesn’t mean they’ll be successful though, and Keith Jackson led the way with a brutal 4-0 prediction in favour of Napoli (26 October).

Rangers

“Even the most optimistic of Rangers fans will be hoping for nothing much more than a bit of damage limitation in Naples,” he said.

“A draw would represent a major result but, quite frankly, that also seems like wishful thinking. The scoreline is likely to be decided by what heroics Allan McGregor can come up with on the night.”

Fellow Daily Record journalists Craig Swan (3-0), Michael Gannon (2-0), Andy Newport (3-0) and Fraser Wilson (3-0) all also predicted comfortable wins for the Italian sides.

Ouch

Have some pride tonight boys, that’s what we’re asking for the most as fans who will be watching on from behind our couches every time Napoli go on the attack.

Away fans are banned from the stadium for the game, but there are still expected to be some Scottish fans who make the trip over and support the guys from the stands.

So far in Europe the performances have been nowhere near good enough and anything similar in this game will result in another thumping.

Napoli have been sensational in all competitions this season, battering Liverpool and Ajax in their home stadium and many are writing Rangers off even before a ball has been kicked.

If we can start strong and find a goal, then we will be confident of being able to cause them big problems on the counter attack. If we start slowly though, it’s going to be a really long night for all involved in this shade of blue.
