BT Sport pundit blasts ‘stupid’ John Lundstram after Rangers incident in Champions League defeat v Napoli

Kevin Thomson blasted John Lundstram for picking up a needless yellow card in Rangers’ 3-0 defeat to Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday night.

Lundstram, 28, received his third booking of the Champions League group stage for a cynical foul on Tanguy Ndombele in the first half of the Group A clash in Naples.

It means he’ll be banned for the Gers’ final group stage match against Ajax and BT Sport pundit cannot see why he pulled Ndombele to the ground as there was hardly a threat for the Glaswegians to worry about.

“It’s a stupid one as well, if I’m honest with you,” said Thomson on BT Sport 4 on Wednesday night (26 October, 08:43pm).

“I don’t like to criticise John Lundstram because I’ve been there myself.

“But I get making a tackle, I get being a presence and I get putting your foot in.

“But there’s no real danger there for Rangers, it’s 2-0.

“Cheap one really for Lundstram.”

Lundstram’s form has taken a nosedive since the end of last season.

The former Sheffield United midfielder was instrumental in helping the Gers reach the Europa League final last term.

He was able to turn into a world-beater against Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig but he’s looked like a Sunday league player in the Champions League in the last few weeks.

Lundstram’s domestic form hasn’t been great either but this was an issue for him at Sheffield United too.

In his first Premier League season at Bramall Lane, Lundstram was amazing and was regularly getting himself on the scoresheet and being heavily involved in the Blades’ attacking play.

He then had a second-season stinker, which seems like is happening this term for us.

Lundstram needs to do what most of his teammates should be doing and having a good hard look at himself in the mirror.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s job is on the line because he and the other players are doing so badly.

In other Rangers news, this Ibrox board member is “getting it in the neck” as an official partner calls for him to be sacked.
