Rangers want to sign Jerry Yates from Blackpool, face competition from Premier League clubs

Rangers have sent scouts to watch Blackpool striker Jerry Yates ahead of a potential January transfer move, according to The Sun.

The Gers signed striker Antonio Colak in the summer and he remains their top goalscorer this season, while Alfredo Morelos has struggled and is set to enter the final six months of his contract at Ibrox.

That has seen the club begin plans for the coming winter transfer window, and Yates has become a potential target after the club were one of ten sides to send scouts to watch him this weekend according to a report [23 October].

They will face competition from Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Brentford as well as Championship sides West Brom and Watford for his signature.

His current deal expires in 2024 and with Blackpool sitting in 18th place and Yates joint top of the goalscoring charts in the Championship, they could be open to a transfer in January to ensure they get a good fee.

Goals

Rangers have been seriously struggling in attack this season and with the future of Morelos up in the air, a new forward should certainly be a priority.

Colak has established himself as the first choice striker at the club now and his goals have been key this season, but Morelos’ likely exit means there could be a gap for someone like Yates to come in and claim a place for himself.

With eight goals this season and two assists, the 25 year old has shown an improved all-round game and would surely be more than willing to step up a level and compete for a place at Ibrox rather than battle relegation with Blackpool.

He’s likely to play more regularly at Rangers than he is in the Premier League, while the Gers should be far more competitive and appealing than the likes of West Brom and Watford.

With his contract situation too the club should be able to do a deal for a relatively moderate fee and it could be a good bit of business to bolster the squad for the second half of the season.
