Giovanni van Bronckhorst is ‘easy sacrifice’ at Rangers as sack verdict shared

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is facing an uncertain future at Ibrox and possibly a defeat against Napoli could spell the end of his reign.

Keith Jackson, the Daily Record journalist, wrote on Monday Jury (24 October) that the “dysfunctional” board is also part of the problem, and the Dutchman is an “easy sacrifice”.

The Bears travel to Naples to face the Italian club in the Champions League on Wednesday (26 October).

“It could be reasonably argued that a dysfunctional board is a major part of his problem. But that doesn’t explain why his players appear to be downing tools around him. The Dutchman will be an easy sacrifice if he’s on the end of another Champions League walloping in Naples,” wrote Jackson for The Daily Record.

The general feeling around Ibrox is that the Dutchman’s tenure is probably coming to an end.

After the defeat against Ajax, Van Bronckhorst gave the impression that the Bears cannot simply compete at this level. The positive energy that was there last season when they reached the finals of the Europa League was all but evaporated.

Van Bronckhorst must take a chunk of the blame as well. Rangers haven’t been able to assert their dominance in the league, and challenge Celtic properly.

They have dropped points at home, and it gave the impression that the Dutchman is unsure about his best starting line-up. He is a far better manager than we’re witnessing at the moment.

The dysfunctional board is equally to blame. Apart from Antonio Colak, other summer signings haven’t proved to be a hit, and the squad has been considerably weakened.

Rangers face the daunting task to pick up something away from Napoli, a side that defeated Liverpool 4-1. Van Bronckhorst is running out of time to save his job.

In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst is “finished” at Ibrox with a journalist sharing his sack verdict on the Dutchman.
