Barry Ferguson backs angry Rangers fans amid ‘worrying times’ after Livingston draw

Rangers fans are “not happy” with the club after they dropped points at home to Livingston “and rightly so” says Barry Ferguson.

The supporters booed the Light Blues off the pitch in midweek as they struggled to see off Championship side Dundee in the League Cup (19 October), after which Giovanni van Bronckhorst refused to defend his side.

Then it took a last-minute leveller from John Lundstram to rescue a point in the league on Saturday (22 October) against 10-man Livi in a game that saw the boos send the team down the tunnel after each half, and Ferguson is as concerned as the supporters right now.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on Monday night (24 October) the former Ibrox captain said: “It was a tough watch again, I’m not going to kid anybody on.

“During the game, at no stage did I feel that Rangers were going to score, with the manager making a couple of substitutions and going with [Alfredo] Morelos and [Antonio] Colak up top, but they got out of jail with Lundstram scoring in extra time.

“It’s worrying times, no doubt about it.

“Dropping two points at home to Livingston, I’m not being disrespectful to Livingston, but Rangers should be turning that into three points.

“They need to try and find something from somewhere because, as I said, it is worrying times. The fans, you can hear them, they’re not happy… and rightly so.”

Poor

There is very little to be positive about around Ibrox at the moment, and with Napoli on the horizon in midweek there is unfortunately every chance that the club is put through another chastening experience in the Champions League there.

The hammerings in Europe are one thing this season, and nowhere near good enough, but if the performances domestically are now falling away as well then it is a major concern.

Celtic had opened the door a few weeks ago with their defeat to St Mirren and some tight subsequent results in the SPFL, offering hope that the league could yet offer respite from the continental misery.

But they appear to be back on form now, and the draw at the weekend has opened the gap at the top of the table back up to four points, with Chris Sutton obviously loving it.

If it stretches much further it would take Ange Postecoglou’s side dropping points on more occasions than seems likely, and the title could be out of reach.

A European collapse of epic proportions and no real prospect of regaining the Scottish Premiership crown feels like a recipe for major change, that may not stop with just the manager.

Things will need to improve hugely in the next few games otherwise this season could be out of sight before Christmas.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart did find praise for one man against Livingston who highly impressed him.
