Sir Kenny Dalglish slams Alfredo Morelos who is ‘not up for the fight’ for Rangers

Sir Kenny Dalglish has suggested Alfredo Morelos’ recent performances have strengthened Antonio Colak’s grip on the number nine jersey at Rangers.

Morelos has endured a tough start to the 2022/23 season with only two goals scored so far for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

The Colombian failed to make an impact when given the chance against Dundee in the Gers’ Scottish League Cup win and was given a hard time by the Ibrox faithful.

Rangers

Dalglish feels the 25-year-old is potentially “not up for the fight” after seeing goals and starts tough to come by in the early part of the campaign.

“The Rangers supporters were far from happy with the way he appeared to go about his business for the 75 minutes he was on the pitch. Now, I’ve no idea what was going through the Colombian striker’s head,” said Dalglish (The Sunday Post, 23 October).

“He rarely speaks to the media, so there won’t be an explanation from him. For sure, it was Alfredo’s chance to impress, and show that he is the No.1 striker at Ibrox ahead of Antonio Colak.

“An opportunity to re-establish himself as the main man between now and the break for the World Cup in mid-November.

“As things turned out, Alfredo may well just have strengthened the Croatian striker’s standing. Again, and I’m surmising here, but it could be that Alfredo is just not up for the fight. Fans will be far from happy if that is the case.”

Contract Issue

The contract issue with Morelos is clearly having a massive impact on the Colombian’s performance at the moment. All fans know what he is capable of at his very best and there surely must be other elements which are impacting his form.

He has come back from a long injury layoff, but the Colombian has played 12 games this season and should surely be back to some sort of match fitness. Colak has been van Bronckhorst’s go-to striker, but an in-form Alfredo Morelos could certainly compete with the Croatian.

Van Bronckhorst desperately needs more from his out-of-form players with the pressure really starting to mount on the Dutchman after the Gers’ latest performance against Livingston.

Rangers simply cannot afford to drop any more points before the start of the new year when they face Celtic in the second Old Firm encounter of the season.

It does now feel like it could potentially be getting to the last chance saloon for the 47-year-old.

In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst is “finished” at Ibrox with a journalist sharing his sack verdict on the Dutchman.
