Giovanni van Bronckhorst ‘finished’ at Rangers as Ibrox sack verdict revealed
Scottish Mail on Sunday journalist Gary Keown claims Giovanni van Bronckhorst is “finished” at Rangers while he’s also calling for a clear-out higher up at Ibrox.
Rangers went four points behind Celtic on Saturday as they relied on a stoppage-time equaliser from John Lundstram to prevent an embarrassing defeat against Livingston at Ibrox.
On top of a humiliating series of results in the Champions League group stages, it seems that the Gers’ season is getting to the point where it looks unsalvageable.

And Keown believes the only option now is for van Brockhorst to go, as well as other officials at the Scottish Premiership club.
“The team lacks invention, seems to be running out of ideas and possibly running out of interest. Van Bronckhorst says the players are still behind him, but it doesn’t look or feel like it,” said Keown in the Scottish Daily Mail [print edition, 23 October, page 144].
“Even he admits there was no urgency about them until they scored an equaliser right at the end of the regulation 90 minutes and that is inexcusable just days after he demanded a reaction following a bad display against Dundee.
“It is uncertain whether Rangers can salvage this season with this squad and these players. It seems nailed-on that it isn’t going to happen with van Bronckhorst in charge.
“He was finished the moment he came out after the defeat to Ajax and admitted Rangers couldn’t compete at Champions League level. Finished, really, when he meekly accepted no new signings from his hugely underperforming board after the play-off win over PSV Eindhoven.
“Time to call a halt and then start emptying some of the dead wood further up the chain.”

Time to go
It’s been time for Rangers to sack van Bronckhorst for a while.
However, the Dutchman isn’t the only one to blame in all this mess because Ross Wilson’s recruitment has been terrible and those above Wilson and van Bronckhorst have allowed this to continue for too long.
Contracts have been allowed to run down, big-money flops have been signed, promising youngsters are being ignored in favour of ancient relics and our squad is falling behind Celtic’s rapidly.
We’ve basically done what Celtic did a couple of seasons ago.
They got cocky, thought their squad was good enough and they absolutely imploded and we won the title.
But since then, they changed their manager and changed their recruitment tactic and it’s worked massively.
We’re still trying to pretend as though Ryan Kent is actually a good player.
Ibrox is full of dead wood, from the playing squad to the board.
We need a clear-out as soon as possible but the only change that can be made overnight is the managerial position.
