Bobby Madden shares verdict on red card incident in Rangers draw v Livingston

Referee Bobby Madden believes VAR was needed to give a red card during Saturday’s draw between Rangers and Livingston at Ibrox.

The Gers were held to a 1-1 draw by the visitors, who were reduced to ten men Morgan Boyes was sent off for a bad tackle with 12 minutes remaining, which was looked at by VAR.

Originally given as a yellow card by the referee, VAR recommended that the referee took another look at which point he upgraded it to a red card. And Madden, writing on his Instagram account, admitted that it wasn’t an easy decision to make.

“Not easy to identify point of contact live and VAR recommends an on field review,” he said.

While he didn’t share if he felt it was the right decision or not, the poll he posted on the image showed that 81% of people felt the red card was correct.

Definite red

Maybe in live time the referee missed that the tackle was high and reckless hence giving the yellow card initially, but it was a very bad tackle and the red card was a no brainer.

As you can see in the still image the challenge makes contact just below the knee and Morelos is lucky that his leg wasn’t snapped in half such was the force.

A red card was a sure thing, and ultimately it helped Rangers to secure a point as they equalised in injury time against the ten men.

But once again the performance was shocking over the 90 minutes and Rangers are now four points behind Celtic with six games to go before the World Cup, leaving the manager in a tough spot.

He needs to find a way to get results and impressively too, or the board could be given a big decision to make during the month-long break over November and December.
